Emanate is building a decentralised technology network for The Future of Music. To manage the network, a Decentralised Autonomous Community called ‘EMC‘— the Emanate Music Co-operative.

To help get this thing started, Emanate needs a group of pilot ‘Emanate Reps’ right now. These will be the first people to earn rewards by contributing to the Emanate network!

This article outlines the governance structure and some initiatives for the co-operative, read on to see what’s coming.

The pilot Emanate Reps will help launch Alpha, onboard artists, educate token holders and will be the first paid members of the decentralised community.

For now, let’s dig a little deeper into what Emanate governance might eventually look like within the EMC DAO/DAC!

What is the EMC?

‘Emanate Music Co-operative’ is the name given to the decentralised community that will govern Emanate.

Eventually, the EMC will become highly automated, with proposals and decisions that will be carried out on-chain for the following:

  • Provision of funds for community projects
  • Voting on new platform features
  • Arbitration of flagged content
  • Marketing grants
  • Voting for Emanate Reps

Working with eosDAC

Emanate has been partnered with eosDAC since 2018, with plans to work together on the future of Emanate governance. Now that Emanate is close to launching, the partnership is set to ramp up.

We love eosDAC

The EMT token dashboard was created from a fork of the eosDAC member client, and cohesion will continue! Emanate is excited to announce the following:

  • Emanate will structure its governance around learnings from eosDAC’s successful DAC launch
  • Emanate will use the DAC toolkit to create on-chain governance software
  • Emanate will create musician-friendly communications around the eosDAC framework
  • eosDAC members will get an EMT airdrop as an incentive to join and help kick start the Musical Co-op.

Roles

Important: Roles, responsibilities, staking requirements and rewards are all initial estimations. Below is not a promise of future returns for EMT holders.

Custodian

Custodians of the EMC will be appointed, this is the most important role in the community, and comes with the highest staking requirements and the most responsibility. As major proposals are voted upon by the community, the custodians will enact them.

  • Number of custodians: 21
  • Staking requirement/rewards ceiling: 100,000 to 500,000
  • Rewards = 1.5x standard network rewards per token
  • Custodians will need to be voted in by EMT holders.

Emanate Rep

Emanate Reps will be responsible for the day-to-day handling of user issues and enquiries on Emanate. Reps will help with the arbitration on tracks and will be active almost every day helping users. Emanate Reps will speak a variety of languages to help make Emanate a truly global platform.

  • Number of reps: Up to 63
  • Staking requirement/rewards ceiling: 50,000 to 100,000 EMT
  • Rewards: 1.25x standard network rewards per token
  • Custodians will need to be voted in by EMT holders.

EMC Member

An Emanate EMC Member will be anyone who has connected an EOS account to their Emanate account, who stakes at least 1000 EMT, who has accepted the terms and conditions (our constitution).

  • Number of Members: Unlimited
  • Staking requirement/rewards ceiling: 1000 to 50,000
  • Rewards paid at the standard rate per token

In order to get rewards, members need to stay active on the platform. This is likely to involve a combination of the following:

  • Regular voting
  • Consumption of audio
  • Following artists
  • Uploading audio
  • Moderating tracks

What about the role of the founders, team and Blockchain Music Pty Ltd?

Emanate is a network that is being launched by the Australian-based Blockchain Music team. The founders will get involved as Reps and Custodians as it is important to have hands-on experience of the co-op and the issues that arise.

Blockchain Music has responsible for the fundraising to-date, the initial build of the software and will be responsible for delivering Alpha, beta and the production Emanate network. From there, the intention is for parts of the protocol to become open-source and for the community to gradually take over.

For now, Blockchain Music continues to own the Emanate IP and trademarks. Emanate will become more decentralized over time, both in terms of technology and governance and the role of Blockchain Music will diminish as the community grows stronger.
